Christian Germain

Originally from Avesnois, he learned his art with the best in France and England. Christian Germain, Michelin-starred chef at Montreuil-sur-Mer, tells us his story.

Born into a family of traditional butchers, Christian Germain started his apprenticeship when he was 16. “I started as apprentice in a Michelin-starred restaurant in Avesnes-sur-Helpe.” After having been named France’s best apprentice, he went to Paris in 1968, then London in 1972. It was in England that he met Lindsay, his wife. Aged 26, he started at the Waterside Inn, a renowned restaurant. He led the restaurant to its second star.  The couple left England in 1981 and were charmed by the Château de Montreuil and its garden. Christain Germain received his star in 1984.

The spirit of the Château de Montreuil has remained the same ever since: “Deliciously French, comfortably English”.

That sums it up!
