Benoit de Bretagne

In his lutherie workshop in Bernieulles, Benoît de Bretagne has been creating sublime acoustic guitars and ukuleles since 2002. We met him...

Passionate about music, Benoît began to study music theory at the age of seven before deciding to learn to play the acoustic guitar. He has been fascinated by woodwork since his teenage years.

He made his first guitar at 15. Several years later, he studied at Leeds College of Music and London Guildhall University where he met Master Lute Craftsman, Peter Barton.

He created his own lutherie workshop in Bernieulles in 2002. He works with precious materials, and sometimes even with rare historical instruments. He works with traditional methods so the fabrication of a guitar takes 150 to 450 hours of work (60 to 120 hours for a ukulele)!

Every year he organises a second-hand musical market in Bernieulles. The event already attracts nearly 2,000 visitors.
